Power to the People

Through a plan entitled Local Decision Making, Aboriginal communities across the NT will be empowered to determine which service delivery models work best for their community and region.

Anindilyakwa Land Council Chair, Tony Wurramarrba described the day as a cause for celebration; ‘these first three Implementation Plans will help… drive opportunities for our people to build a self-sufficient future that is guided by Anindilyakwa people and that protects Anindilyakwa culture.’

The Housing Implementation Plan is heavily informed by work undertaken by The Fulcrum Agency and includes a Strategic Master Plan that we devised for the townships and satellite communities on Groote. The Master Plan is a culmination of many years work and includes a Review of all housing stock as well as a Guide to the delivery of cost-effective, culturally appropriate and healthy new homes.

Whilst on island, Chief Minister Gunner toured the Groote Archipelago Housing Provider (‘GAHP’) homes that are currently under construction, commenting on both the design and presence of local contractors. These homes are the first of 50, designed by us using the Housing Guide.
