We’re stuck in symbolism for a while

Late last year, TF.A Principal, Kieran Wong, was interview by Frances Silberstein for an article she was writing on the topic of architecture and reconciliation. Frances is a recent graduate from the Master of Architecture program at UWA, with an interest in the relationship between First Nations Australians and architecture. This article was written following her return from an extended period overseas.

TF.A Principal, Kieran Wong’s latest article to be published on The Conversation questions the historical presentation of First Nations culture in museums, and suggests that a better approach may already be at play in many contemporary cultural institutions.

As always, his article has sparked debate amongst readers, with many offering divergent opinions within the comments. We’d be keen to hear what you think.

Ps. since the article was published, it has come to our attention that the total value of the project is $395.9 million. Our apologies for the error.

In an article recently published in ArchitectureAU , TF.A Principal Emma Williamson reflects on Perth’s new civic square and the way the combined design team of IPH, Lyons Architecture and Aspect Studios, have integrated “the wisdom of the custodians of our land into the fabric of our growing cities.”

There was much excitement last week over NT Chief Minister, Michael Gunner’s visit to Groote Eylandt to sign the first three Implementation Plans that will give Aboriginal people greater control over their own affairs in relation to law and rehabilitation, economic development and housing.
